Lord Ganesha is the son of Shiva and Parvati and he is the brother of Karthikeya (or Subrahmanya)

Ganesha was born from saint to protect parvati The most well-known story is probably the one taken from the Shiva Purana. The goddess Parvati had started preparing for a bath.

Lord Shiva was enraged for not being let into his own home, and a battle ensued between Lord Shiva and his son Ganesha. Lord Shiva being more powerful, beheaded Ganesha by Lord Shiva, then placed the head on Ganesha's body and gave him life and his blessings. Hence, Ganesha has a human body and an elephant head.

Lord Shiva and Parvati celebrated the marriage of Ganesha to Riddhi and Siddhi, who bore Him two beautiful sons named Laabha and Kshema respectively. Ganesha is an eternal brahmachari (celibate). ... Thus, Ganesha married two beautiful daughters of Brahma the Creator, Siddhi and Riddhi are the wives of Hindu God Ganesha.

Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rites and ceremonies.

Parshuram was enraged that He was being prevented from seeing Shiva, and so He started fighting Ganesha. Ganesha was winning handily, but then Parshuram threw His axe at Ganesha and Ganesha didn't fight back against it, because the axe was a gift from Shiva
